Make a short birthday wish personal

The easiest way to improve a birthday wish is to replace one general phrase with something only the two of you recognise. A shared bus ride, a borrowed book, or the tea stall you always end up at gives a short message a reason to belong to this person.

Start with a wish, add one detail, then stop. “Happy birthday! Still saving you the window seat” can say more to the right friend than a paragraph about happiness and success. Keep the joke affectionate, especially if you plan to share the message somewhere other people can read it.

If you have not spoken in a while, avoid turning the birthday wish into an apology essay. A warm line and a simple invitation to catch up are enough. Let them choose whether to continue the conversation.

Keep it inside one segment

Full Talktime keeps a message inside one SMS segment. Ordinary GSM-7 text has a 160-unit allowance. Other scripts, curly quotes and emoji can switch the message to the smaller Unicode allowance; some symbols also cost more than one unit.

The examples above are measured with the same counter as the composer. After adding a name or changing punctuation, check the result in the SMS counter. Shortening “you” to “u” is optional. A message should still sound like something you would actually say.

Put the wish on an old-phone screen

Open the birthday composer, replace the starter text with your wish, and create its share link. Send that link through WhatsApp, another app, or your clipboard. The recipient opens the message on the fictional handset in their browser.

This does not send a carrier SMS. The Direct Message link lasts three days, so create it close to when you intend to share it. Anyone holding an unexpired link can read it; save private details for a conversation you trust.
